  • Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra to Play Live on the Waterfront

    The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to host the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, July 25 at Live on the Waterfront, in collaboration with Superior Theatre Festival.

    For the first time ever, the full orchestra will play a free outdoor show.

    Thunder Bay’s Fourth Pedestrian Crossover Activated

    Thunder Bay’s fourth Pedestrian Crossover has been activated on James Street, near the Thunder Bay Kinsmen Centre.

    Motorists and cyclists using James Street must now stop when a pedestrian is waiting to cross and the crossover lights start flashing.

  • Incident Reporting Program Completes First Year in Thunder Bay

    Have you experienced or witnessed racism in Thunder Bay? Since the Incident Reporting Program launched on June 27, 2017, a total of 176 reports have been filed either by or on behalf of people in Thunder Bay who have.

    Results of the first year of the program were presented to City Council at Committee of the Whole tonight.

  • Mayor Responds to CN Notice it will Appeal Court Decision

    CN has provided the City of Thunder Bay notice that it intends to appeal the Court of Appeal’s decision ordering CN to repair and reopen the James Street bridge to all traffic, including cars and trucks.

    Mayor Keith Hobbs today made the following statement in response:

    “We are beyond disappointed with this move.

  • Ferrochrome Plant in North Presents Opportunities

    Thunder Bay/Fort William First Nation leaders remain hopeful for new opportunities after learning this afternoon that Noront Resources’ ferrochrome processing plant to process chromite ore from the Ring of Fire will not be built in Thunder Bay.

    Mayor Keith Hobbs and Fort William First Nation Chief Peter Collins learned of the decision from Noront’s senior officials at Thunder Bay City Hall this afternoon.

  • Multi-use Trail to Close Next Week for Culvert Work

    The popular multi-use trail under the Harbour Expressway linking Confederation College with Riverside Drive will be closed from Monday, July 16 until Wednesday, July 18 for culvert replacement work.

    During construction, it will not be possible for trail users to pass safely under the Harbour Expressway.

  • Sections of Victoria Avenue to Close for Line Painting Work

    A section of Victoria Avenue will be closed for line painting work between Lillie Street and Waterloo Street. Work will begin on Monday, July 16 and is expected to take approximately five days to complete.

  • Arthur Street Eastbound Traffic Lanes to Close Tomorrow

    Eastbound traffic lanes on Arthur Street, between James Street and Leland Avenue, will be closed on Saturday, July 14 to accommodate storm sewer construction.

    Motorists are asked to use alternate routes, follow posted construction signage and to use extra caution when travelling near the construction area.

  • City Seeks to Revise Boulevard Dam Water Permit

    A pre-hearing was held today concerning the City of Thunder Bay's permit to take water for Boulevard Dam. The permit to take water allows the City to store water from Current River to create Boulevard Lake.

  • Violence Condemned

    In response to an incident of violence yesterday evening in the Water Street area, Mayor Keith Hobbs made the following statement on behalf of City Council and Administration:

    “We are deeply saddened by an incident of violence that occurred Wednesday evening in the Water Street area.  We have reported the incident and follow up social media posts to Thunder Bay Police Service and commend those people who intervened and helped.
